Houllier, 63, who signed a three-year contract, he added that he was fit and healthy after cardiac problems in 2001.

But it will be up to 15 days before he could have cost the team, he has yet to agree on a date with the French Football Federation.

"I had a job good and safe but ambition of Villa made me feel that wanted to be part of the team," he said.

As Houllier negotiates its output of the function as technical director of FFF, it will not be present for travel Monday to Stoke in the Premier League, with Kevin MacDonald caretaker manager running the team in its place.

He, however, will be at Villa Park to visit Bolton in the League on 18 September and could make the team for the confrontation of Carling Cup during the week against Blackburn, or, failing that, the League trip to wolves on September 26.

Thereafter, MacDonald will return to his work as a team boss.

However, Houllier added that was disappointed MacDonald, who took over the reins after output shocks of O'Neill in August, had rejected the opportunity to work as his assistant.

"I'm working on an appointment Assistant Manager," continued the French.

"Joint management does not work, but in some capacity as Assistant Manager he would have been useful. It could also have perhaps learned the trade and, who knows, resumed from me.

"But I understand your decision, it is a nice bloke not hurt-I told him that I would like to stay at the Club".

Under MacDonald, Villa won two of their opening three League games, a foundation that Houllier is committed to build.

"I'm here to meet who says he is not a good Club, so let's try to make it better," enthused Houllier.

"Are the first-class facilities, the training camp is really good, there is a vision for the future.

"It is so far the us who work hard to bring joy and success for fans. fans are more important, they are passionate, vocals and fantastic.

Liverpool have not lost at Villa Park since February 1998, I want to put that right this is one of my priorities

Houllier, who underwent a heart operation for 11 hours in 2001, also rejected suggestions that he was being employed in a Director's ability to football, insisting that he was prepared for a hands-on role.

"I'm not a football Director. I'll be on the pitch, I will be hands on and responsible," he confirmed.

"I was missing the involvement of day to day, which is one of the reasons [I took work]".

Having helped Liverpool in a jar treble in 2001, he hopes that practical approach can deliver first major honours Villa since his triumph of the League in 1996.

"The Club is stable and has a record of gradual improvement," reasoned Houllier.

"Our goal for the future is honors, but that won't happen overnight. people mention the Champions League and in Europe, but let's take it one step at a time.

"Let's make progress, let's make the best of the team that we have and go ahead with an appetite for win and progressing together. But the path to success is not easy."

Houllier, however, reveal a target immediate-improve a sad record against their former bosses.

"Every time I came here we drew or won," he recalled.

"Liverpool have not lost at Villa Park since February 1998, I want to put that right this is one of my priorities and one of my goals for the season."

The failure to beat Liverpool at home was a smaller spot held by O'Neill, but his successor believes he left the Club in good shape.

"Martin is a great Manager, he brought up a good cast and this is one of the reasons that we have a good basis for work," continued Houllier.

"It is difficult to succeed him, but it is always difficult to succeed someone is difficult, but it is exciting.

"I trust the cast, there is potential here do something well.

"Martin was almost there, so let's do our best to get what we want. take some time, but that is my philosophy-progress, performance and pleasure."
